Frequently asked questions.

General FAQs

What types of photography do you specialize in?

I specialize in documentary-style photography across a variety of categories—portraits, editorials, commercial, real estate, and more. My goal is always to showcase my design style in unique and creative ways.

Where are you based, and do you travel for sessions/projects?

I’m based in Huntsville, North Alabama, but I do travel for sessions! For locations in southern Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia, a flat travel fee applies for distances over 100 miles.

How far in advance should I book a session or consultation?

Portrait, family, or short sessions (no consultation needed): at least 1 week in advance.

Weddings, engagements, or real estate sessions (consultation required): at least 2–3 weeks in advance.

Design or styling services: at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance for best results.

What is your pricing, and what is included in your packages?

Please see the Packages page or the dropdown for your specific session type (such as real estate or weddings) for detailed pricing. If you have additional questions, email me at studiohsv@alissajphotography.com and I’ll reply within 24 hours.

Do you require a deposit to book?

Yes, a 50% deposit is required to secure your session date and time. This helps ensure fairness to all clients who want to book. The deposit amount is based on your session type. For questions about deposits or payments, please reach out via email.

How long will it take to receive my photos after the session?

Turnaround time depends on the session type:

Standard sessions: typically 24–48 hours.

Sessions requiring design, styling, or floor plans: turnaround may vary.

Will my photos be edited, and what kind of editing do you do?

Yes! All photos are edited in Adobe Lightroom for light, color, and clarity, as well as minor object removal (e.g., trash cans, telephone poles, or background distractions).

I do not alter body size, face shape, eye/hair color, or other physical features. I believe the best photos reflect your authentic self. Any special editing requests must be discussed before the session, as no changes will be made after final delivery.

Can I request specific poses, styles, or design aesthetics?

Absolutely! I welcome pose requests. The only restriction is that no vulgar or explicit poses are permitted.

As for style, I stay true to my signature look: light, golden, creamy, and airy photos. If you’re looking for dark and moody photography, I may not be the best fit—but I’d be happy to recommend other talented photographers.

Do you provide prints, albums, or digital files?

I provide high-quality digital files delivered via Pixieset for easy downloading. A step-by-step PDF guide is available to help with downloads. For further questions, email me anytime.

What should I wear or prepare for a session?

For portrait sessions, wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable! It is recommended to avoid big last-minute changes (like new hair color or skin treatments) right before your session.

For commercial or real estate sessions (without staging services booked), please ensure your space is clean and ready to photograph—unless you’d like to capture a more “lived-in” look!

Do you shoot in natural light or studio light?

I don’t own a studio. Most sessions are outdoors or on location at your home or business, using natural light. I do use a flash when needed to enhance the atmosphere.

Do you pick the location for the session or does the client?

The choice is yours! If you have a dream location, we’ll go there. If not, I can provide recommendations. Each session includes one location of your choice. Additional locations can be added for an extra fee.

Please note: location changes cannot be made the day of the shoot. However, if weather impacts an outdoor session, we will reschedule at no extra cost.

Can you help with styling or staging a space for photos?

Yes! Please see my staging packages for details. Staging cannot be done on the day of your photography session, as it requires additional time to achieve the best results.

What happens if the weather is bad (for outdoor shoots)?

If weather prevents your outdoor shoot, we’ll reschedule at no extra charge.

For real estate or commercial sessions:

Indoor shots will still be completed on the scheduled day.

Exterior shots will be rescheduled for another day. Interior shots will not be redone on the rescheduled day for exterior shots.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

Reschedules/cancellations 3+ days in advance: no fee.

Last-minute reschedules: $25 fee.

Last-minute cancellations (not rescheduled): $25 fee and your 50% deposit will be non-refundable.

Can I use your photos for commercial purposes (social media, marketing, etc.)?

Yes! Once delivered, the photos are yours to use. I only ask that you credit and tag me when posting so I can keep doing what I love!

Photography + Styling/Staging FAQs

How does the styling consultation process work?

All styling consultations begin virtually (via Zoom) to discuss your needs. This is followed by an in-person visit to view the space and determine next steps. Detailed package information is available on the Real Estate page.

Do you offer styling consultations along with styled photo sessions?

Yes! They are included in the Premium Styling Package and available as an add-on for the Essentials Styling Package.

Do you provide virtual styling consultations?

Yes. Initial consultations are virtual to understand your project and needs. Follow-ups may be in-person or via Zoom. Final consultations, installation, and photo close-out sessions are always in person.

What is the difference between your styling services and photography services?

They are completely separate! You can book photography only, styling/staging only, or both. If you already have a photographer you love, I’m happy to just provide design services.

Can I hire you for photography only, styling only, or a combination?

Yes! You can customize services until you sign the final contract agreement and pay your first installment. After that, any new work (like adding design services or photography sessions) will require a separate contract and agreement.

Do you collaborate with other designers, realtors, or builders?

Currently, I work independently. However, I’d love to discuss collaborations! Email me at studiohsv@alissajphotography.com if you’re interested.

Are you a certified interior designer?

Not yet! I’ve worked for several companies as both a designer and intern, and this business is an extension of that experience. I’m currently pursuing certification, with my first exam in October 2025 and a goal of being certified by April 2026.
